Omissions and inaccuracies will delay the processing of your application.

All South African citizens and South African permanent residents must state their SA identity number and upload a copy of their identity document or card. Where a permanent resident does not yet have an SA identity number and identity document or card, evidence of permanent residency must be uploaded. Failure to upload such evidence will result in the applicant being considered an international applicant.

We are committed to addressing the needs of students with disabilities, and will provide facilities, where we can. To make sure that we can plan services to accommodate your specific disability, please complete the relevant part of this section. Please note that completion of disability section is voluntary, and that any information you give will not prejudice your application for an academic place, but if your disability is such that you will require accommodations of any kind, we strongly advise disclosure. Contact our Disability Service well in advance of applying to UCT, and if possible visit the University to assess the suitability of your programme, the academic department and the facilities available.

Semester Study Abroad (SSA)

Semester Study Abroad applicants must be currently registered at another higher education institution.

For SSA applicants whose passport number is not available when completing the application, please enter N/A in the interim.

 


 

Contact details

Contact details are mandatory for all applicants. We need your Home Address, in the event UCT needs to send you documentation. If your Postal Address is different from your Home Address, we need your Postal Address as well.

We need at least one contact phone number and email address that may be used for communication.

If your application is successful, we will use this contact number and/or email address when you are a student at UCT.

 


 

Parent/Guardian and Fee Payer Information

There are three parts to this section:

  1. Completion of the Contact Details of your parent/guardian is mandatory for:
    • Applicants under 18 years of age, or
    • Applicants who wish to apply for financial aid.
    For all other applicants this is optional, but recommended.
  2. Completion of your Fee Payers information is mandatory for all applicants.
  3. Completion of Redress and Disadvantage Factor Information is mandatory for all South African undergraduate applicants.

 


 

Emergency Contacts

If you are under the age of eighteen years, you must submit Parent/Guardian details.

 


 

Secondary School Information

All applicants must complete this section with respect to your secondary school details.

  1. Applicants who are currently at school will fall into one of two categories:
    • those who are taking the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) administered by the Department of Basic Education, the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) or The South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI).

      Current NSC candidates must complete their final grade 11 results on this screen, and may have to submit additional grade 12 results as well, depending on when the application is submitted.
    • those applicants, whether finishing school in South Africa or not, who are not taking the NSC.

      Applicants who are not taking the NSC must upload their most recent school results on this screen. For example, CAIE applicants should upload IGCSE results. In addition, if predicted scores are available, please upload them now.
  2. Applicants who have completed secondary school:

    Applicants who have completed secondary schooling are required to upload a copy of their final secondary school examination results.

Note that certified, electronic copies of all school results must be submitted via email to admissions@uct.ac.za for all applications. Please do not submit your results without attaching your applicant number.

 


 

Tertiary Information

If you have attended another tertiary institution such as a University, University of Technology, Technikon, Teachers Training College or College of Nursing, you must submit certified transcripts of your complete academic record issued by the institution(s) concerned.

These academic transcripts must show courses passed and failed, as well as courses taken but not completed.

They should also include the grades and percentages obtained, qualifications completed, and, for transcripts from South African institutions, a statement of conduct.

Should the required documents be in a language other than English, you must include a sworn translation thereof.

If you are currently registered for higher education studies, you must submit with your application a certificate which shows your results for previous years (if any) and the courses for which you are currently registered.

As soon as your end-of-year results become available, you must submit a formal statement of these results, including, for those from South African institutions, a certificate of conduct, to our Admissions Office.

Please do not submit your results without attaching your applicant number.

Supporting documents must be submitted as certified copies by email.

If you are at, or have attended another higher education institution, and you do not indicate this on your application form, your application will be cancelled.

If we discover this after you register, we may cancel your registration immediately.

Post School Activity

If you are currently in secondary school you do not need to complete this section.

If you already completed secondary school, please select the year in which your post-school activity occurred, and indicate the nature of the activity.

Any failure to declare post-secondary education may result in your application or registration being cancelled.

 


 

Semester Study Abroad partners

  • SSA applicants applying directly to UCT as freemovers must select SSAINDIVD.
  • SSA applicants applying through one of the study abroad partners must select their study abroad/exchange partner from the drop-down list in the application form.
  • Exchange students studying under the auspices of an existing exchange agreement between their university and UCT, must select their home university from the list.
  • If your university/study abroad programme is not found in the list, select SSAINDIVD and email ssa@uct.ac.za to confirm your correct information.

 


 

Programme Choices

Undergraduate Applicants

Please indicate your first and second choice of degree, diploma or certificate.

You are not required to make more than one choice, but it is advisable to do so.

Give careful attention to your choices as alternatives may not be available at a later stage in the application cycle.

(Undergraduate applicants are not permitted to change their choices after 31 August).

Where required, please specify the necessary specialisation or major.

Postgraduate Applicants

Postgraduate applicants may indicate a second choice but it is not required.

Referees & Supervisors

Referees’ names (two referees) and their contact details may be required for certain postgraduate applications.

Before applying for postgraduate studies that require a supervisor, we suggest that you have a discussion with a prospective supervisor.

 


 

National Benchmark Tests (NBTs)

Most undergraduate applicants who normally reside, or have completed/are completing schooling, in South Africa must write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs). Applicants applying for admission to a programme in the Faculty of Health Sciences must write the NBTs, wherever they may reside.

You must:

  • register for the NBTs before you apply online, or before you submit a paper application form
  • include your NBT registration number in your application.

Funding Information

Undergraduate Funding Application

Should you apply for financial assistance, please refer to the information on the screen for assistance with respect to your funding application.

Postgraduate Funding Application

This section must be completed if you are a postgraduate applicant.

Please note that if you indicate that you wish to be considered for funding, you must either:

  • Complete and submit the Postgraduate Funding Application form if you are a South African citizen or permanent resident, or
  • If you are an international applicant or a refugee, complete Form 10C.

Please pay careful attention to the relevant closing dates.

 


 

Housing Information

Applicants can only be allocated to student accommodation if they have been offered a place of study. However, residence offers are limited by capacity. Applicants do not have a choice of residence, and we allocate successful applicants to a residence. However, successful applicants have the right to:

  1. Request to be moved to a double room where they have been allocated to a single room (Note that students are only allocated to rooms after their arrival at UCT), and
  2. Request to be moved to single sex accommodation in cases where they have been allocated to a mixed sex residence.

Redress and Disadvantage Information

Completion of Redress and Disadvantage Factor Information is mandatory for all South African undergraduate applicants.

 


 

Document Uploads

All applicants must upload a certified/notarised copy of either their South African ID or non-South African Passport.

Additional documents may be required depending on your application choices, past schooling or past tertiary education.
