Q: Are the eRA System and eRA Commons the same thing? When should I use these systems?
A: The eRA System and eRA Commons are two separate/unrelated web-based platforms.
The eRA System is an internal UCT system used across the organisation, to track and manage administration processes of the research project lifecycle. This includes the capturing and management of research outputs, contracts, certain URC grant funding applications, and the internal approvals process for external grant applications to name a few. All queries for the eRA System can be logged on ServiceNow and will be routed accordingly.
eRA Commons is a National Institute of Health (NIH) portal, used by administrators, NIH funded researchers as well applicants who wish to apply for NIH funding. Should you require login information for eRA Commons, including the generation of your institutionally-linked eRA Commons username, please email researchcontracts@uct.ac.za and Nandie Makatesi. As a potential NIH grant applicant/awardee, it is important to note that you need to complete the Pre-Awards Internal Approvals process on the eRA System before submitting your completed application on the NIH platform.
