University of the future project launch event banner

The University of the Future (UoF) project aims to create a modern, vibrant, and attractive campus designed to attract the very best staff and student talent, local businesses, donors, industry interest and the broader community. The project will create a warm and welcoming core facility for all University of Cape Town (UCT) campuses by incorporating well planned food outlets, social and formal learning spaces, and shared spaces for community interactions and engagements towards 2030 and beyond. There is a growing emphasis on providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning, and research that is fit for purpose now and in the future.

The University of the Future (UoF) project will propose a strategic roadmap for UCT to develop the physical environment, social and community spaces and other enabling structures, processes, and technologies necessary to attract and inspire future staff and students.

The vision is to create an enabling environment to unleash human potential.

The mission is to create enabling places, spaces, services and functions for the future of UCT.

The project is chaired by Professor Salome Maswime, the head of the Global Surgery Division, with Mr Richard Perez, the director of the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika. The oversight of the project is provided by a diverse steering committee which advises the executive through the Office of the interim Vice-Chancellor on the Future of Places, Spaces, Services and functions at UCT, with wide representation from academics, PASS staff, unions, executives, students and community.
