Professor Tom Moultrie

Tom Moultrie is Professor of Demography in the Faculty of Commerce.

He holds a BBusSc (Actuarial Science, UCT 1992), an MSc in Economics (Development Studies, with distinction, LSE 1998) and a PhD in demography (LSHTM 2002). After returning to UCT as a Mellon Foundation postdoctoral fellow, he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in 2005, and promoted ad-hominem to Associate Professor (2009) and Professor (2015). In 2023, he was elected as a Fellow of the University of Cape Town.

A member of the UCT Senate since 2008 (initially as a non-professorial staff member), he served on the UCT Council from 2016–20 as a Senate nominee.
