Mr Kamvelihle Tabata
Kamvelihle Tabata is a global citizen who actively participates in endeavours that foster social inclusion. His passion extends to community engagement, environmental sustainability and awareness, as well as advancement of technology in rural areas. He is a former treasurer general of the University of Cape Town’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and has been involved in campus activism throughout his years in education. Kamva is involved in rural community work where he actively mentors and tutors matriculants.
He is currently a researcher in the Department of Civil Engineering at UCT, where he is doing his postgraduate studies. His interests are in exploring the mechanics and physics of ice sheets and ice shelves in Antartica. In particular, simulating the complex nonlinear process that is inherently challenging to comprehend. The focus revolves around understanding how the ice sheets and ice shelves will evolve in the coming years, and their pivotal role in the rising sea levels and global warming.
