UCT postgraduates have access to world-class facilities. This includes leading libraries, state-of-the art research units and one-on-one support. Postgraduates can also access professional and academic resources, as well as personalised guidance at the Office for Postgraduate Studies and the Postgraduate Centre and Funding Office.

Postgraduate Centre and Funding Office and Office for Postgrad Studies

The Postgraduate Centre and Funding Office, together with the Office for Postgraduate Studies at UCT gives personalised guidance to students. They serve as a supportive hub for everything from academic and professional needs to funding support.

These offices share information on training, workshops and extracurricular activities that aid your academic growth and personal well-being. Guidance on fees and funding is also given by the office, and it manages many aspects of the application and renewal process. 

The Postgraduate Centre and Funding Office also provides a communal meeting and workspace. This includes access to computers and the Blue Desk, a one-stop information desk dedicated to postgraduates.

Libraries

UCT’s libraries give you access to study and research materials, digital services and expert librarians.

Our libraries are more than just books and journals. UCT’s libraries offer Wi-Fi access and over 400 computers. There is also self-service checkout; copy, print and scan facilities; quiet study rooms and 24-hour study spaces.

The UCT Libraries Special Collections contain printed and audio-visual materials on African studies and other specialised subjects. Our collection of African film is among the biggest in the world, with over 3 000 films available.

Research labs

UCT is home to state-of-the-art technology housed in cutting-edge laboratories. This allows postgraduates to work on challenging and novel projects in an array of fields.

Our research labs include the Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3D), the Sleep Laboratory in the Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine (ESSM), the Stable Light Isotope Laboratory, and data science labs involved in the global Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project.

ICT and online learning

UCT postgraduates have access to Wi-Fi on all campuses and in our on-campus residences. A range of information and communications technology services (ICTS) are also available.

Online-learning opportunities for postgrads includes massive open online courses (MOOCs) and certified short courses.

Office for Inclusivity and Change (OIC)

UCT is committed to developing an environment where everyone feels included and change is respected, encouraged and celebrated. This work is driven through the Office for Inclusivity and Change (OIC) which deals with disability services, cultural change and education. It also provides sexual assault, harassment and mediation services.
