The cost of living must be considered when you budget for postgraduate study at UCT.
Cost of living involves expenses that you need on a day-to-day basis. These include food, transport, healthcare – even entertainment.
Accommodation is also considered a cost of living expense. However, costs associated with housing are not listed here. Instead they are detailed on our accommodation page.
We recommend you create a budget of how much you spend on cost of living expenses. Some of those expenses should include:
- Food
- Toiletries
- Books/stationary
- Local transport
- Medical insurance
- Data costs
- Miscellaneous costs (entertainment, etc)
Other costs of living
There are other costs you may want to budget for that are not listed above. These costs include:
- Laptop
- Mobile phone
- Clothes/shoes
- Vehicle rental/lease
- Family/child care
- Visa costs
- Return trip(s) home
