Research area: Emerging markets finance, investment and trade

Research interests: 

  1. International business strategy especially with an emerging market and Africa focus - including multinational companies and processes of investment and disinvestment in Africa
  2. Institutional theory and the institutional environment in Africa - and how multinationals respond to and affect institutions
  3. Multinational corporations and issues of sustainability and climate change in Africa, and the circular economy
  4. Challenges and opportunities of doing business at the base of the pyramid in Africa - including fintech solutions
  5. Connecting the formal and informal economies and role of intermediaries in Africa - institutional entrepreneurialism

Current research:  My research draws on institutional theory in an international business context and focuses on how multinational enterprises are affected by and affect the institutions underpinning the economic environment. This lends itself to wide-ranging applications in an emerging market and Africa context.
