" It is part of our mission to drive African scholarship that helps African firms, managers, and entrepreneurs understand what they are doing well - and how they can do it better- as well as to share that knowledge more widely"

Impact knowledge: Global excellence meets local relevance

The research community at the UCT GSB has expanded over the past two years in terms of both the number of research active faculty and in the number of interdisciplinary research aimed at tackling the most devastating problems facing the world today.

Guided by our research mission and slogan “impact knowledge”, the GSB’s current faculty excels at applied scholarly research and consultancy in areas of leadership (and particularly, of diversity in organisations), in sustainability (and, particularly, in corporate approaches to environmental and social issues), in issues of energy policy and in operations management and in entrepreneurship.

This commitment to addressing practical issues is coupled with a simultaneous commitment to participating in and contributing to international scholarly conversations. We recognise that there are tensions in addressing both objectives simultaneously, but we believe there are important synergies, as well. In particular, leading management and organisation journals have expressed a growing commitment to addressing “grand challenges.” Our practical commitment and geographic immersion in an area of much need puts us in a good position to contribute to this growing body of knowledge.
