Students who are American citizens or eligible non-citizens of the USA, ie, students who have permanent residency are eligible for funds under the Direct Loan Federal Student Aid Program.
Exempt from paying the initial amount which is due by 02 February 2024
US loan recipients will receive a fee payment clearance as part of the pre-registration process, provided your FSA Direct loan and/or PLUS loan has been confirmed.
Application process
Complete steps 1 – 4:
- Step 1 – Entrance counselling
Direct loan entrance counselling and/or Grad Plus loan entrance counselling.
- Step 2 – FAFSA
Complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
The UCT school code is G10084 or 010084.
- Step 3 – Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Complete the online MPN Studentaid.gov. The MPN is the legal document that the student or parent signs as a guarantee to repay the loan and any accrued interest and fees to the department. It also explains the terms and conditions of the loan.
- Step 4 – UCT application form
Complete the IAPO US Federal Aid application form (see top right-hand side). For an estimate of how much it will cost to study at UCT, click on the cost of attendance page for more information.
Loan amount determined
UCT will determine the loan amount for which you are eligible and notify you by email.
Loan processed
The loan is originated/certified.
Loan disbursed
The loan is disbursed upon registration and attendance of classes.

The university will not disburse the second payout of funds without a satisfactory academic progress report.
