Lund University Delegation Visits UCT
The University of Cape Town (UCT) was pleased to welcome a distinguished delegation from Lund University on 2 December 2024. This visit was led by Prof. Lena Eskilsson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Lund University with a delegation of key researchers attending the SANORD conference in Cape Town. The delegation met with UCT’s executive team, including Vice-Chancellor Prof Mosa Moshabela and International Office Director Quinton Johnson,PhD. This visit reflected the strong, longstanding partnership between the two institutions, rooted in collaborative research, academic exchanges and shared membership in global networks such as WUN, SASUF and SANORD. As part of the visit, Lund University researchers were introduced to UCT colleagues in related disciplines to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration. These introductions aim to foster research-led partnerships in various disciplines.
UCT and Lund University have nurtured a formal partnership since 2014, promoting student and faculty exchanges, joint research and academic cooperation. The relationship also includes a cotutelle agreement for a joint degree in Health Sciences, underscoring the universities’ commitment to shared academic excellence. Lund University is among the world’s top universities, known for its cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary education. With 47,000 students and 8,800 staff, it is a hub of innovation and discovery. The visiting delegation included experts from diverse fields, such as neuroscience, law, strategic communication, tourism studies, energy sciences and informatics. This visit highlighted UCT’s strategic focus on fostering impactful international partnerships, reaffirming its position as a leading global academic institution.
