Strengthening Global Partnerships - Rutgers University Visits UCT

The University of Cape Town (UCT) had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Dan Waite of Rutgers University, USA as the Executive Director of Rutgers Global: Centre for Global Education and Study Abroad on 05 February 2025.

Hosted by Quinton Johnson, PhD, Director of UCT’s International Office, the visit aimed to explore opportunities for academic collaboration as part of ongoing efforts by both institutions to strengthen international partnerships and expand student mobility opportunities.

Discussions focused on shared goals in internationalisation and a mutual recognition of the value of international academic experiences created through study abroad, student exchange and short global learning programmes. Given its strategic focus, Rutgers University is committed to expanding opportunities for its students in Africa, particularly in South Africa.

The strong academic alignment between Rutgers University and UCT in disciplines such as development studies, health, education and public governance present numerous possibilities for collaboration that would enrich their respective student and academic communities.

UCT looks forward to continued discussions and future collaborations with Rutgers University towards building shared academic excellence and advancing global engagement through international student mobility.
