The University of Cape Town's International Office proudly partnered with the Office for Inclusivity and Change (OIC) to support their 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign. As part of this collaboration, we contributed to the impactful OIC “Getting Behind You, Period” project, aimed at supporting young girls and women in communities across Heideveld, Gugulethu, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha.

Working alongside the OIC and two dedicated NGOs, the International Office prepared 60 care packages containing essential hygiene items, including sanitary pads, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and face cloths. Each gift was accompanied by a heartfelt message encouraging recipients to stay strong, courageous and to focus on their education.  International Office Director, Quinton Johnson, PhD, especially thanked the transformation committee chairs Zinzi Nkalitshana, Lana Fortuin and their colleagues for the wonderful efforts, as well as all the staff who donated items for the gift packs. OIC Director, Dr. Sianne Alves expressed her appreciation to the International Office for its thoughtful contribution and collaboration that is making such an important impact within and beyond the university. Moreover, the staff and NGO representatives were delighted at how the project has played a crucial role in empowering young women to overcome barriers and pursue their aspirations.
