Guangdong University of Finance and Economics explores opportunities with UCT
On 20 September, a high-level delegation from Guangdong University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) visited the University of Cape Town (UCT) to discuss potential academic collaborations. This visit marked a significant step in fostering educational ties between the two institutions.
The delegation, led by GUFE President Yu Haifeng, was warmly welcomed by UCT’s International Office Director Quinton Johnson, PhD who emphasised UCT’s commitment to strengthening its internationalisation strategy by expanding cooperation with Chinese universities.
Both institutions introduced their respective academic strengths and ongoing developments. Key areas of collaboration included student exchange programmes, the potential dispatch of Chinese language teachers to UCT and the launch of a "Chinese Language + Professional Studies" programme, aimed at providing international students in China with a unique cross-disciplinary learning experience.
As part of the visit, the GUFE delegation toured UCT’s Confucius Institute guided by CI Director Prof PengPeng Feng. The UCT CI plays a pivotal role in promoting Chinese language at the institution, making it a focal point for future collaborations.

This visit led to both institutions eager to explore further avenues of academic cooperation in the near future.
