Technologies On Show

A new website "Tektique" has been launched to showcase technology that is available from participating South African universities. This is a great initiative, spearheaded by Anita Nel, head of the University of Stellenbosch's Technology Transfer Office, UCT is represented on the Management Committee by RCIPS. Tektique represents a 'one stop shop' for technology and will also enable the different universities to pool closely associated intellectual property. This will hopefully make it easier for South African companies to locate relevant IP to grow their businesses. From a marketing point of view it makes sense; efforts can be focussed on promoting the central platform as opposed to each of the 23 institutions advertising and maintaining their own sites and companies needing to visit up to 23 sites to check out what's new!

Licensing opportunities range from early stage technologies where development partners are sought through to late stage that are commercialisation ready. It is hoped that the website will increase interaction between the university Technology Transfer Offices and South African SMMEs and companies, especially important with the introduction of the new Intellectual Property Rights from Publicly Funded Research Act.
