Visit the IP section of the website for more information on the IPR Act. You can download the Act and the latest public version of the Regulations there.

The Act applies to all research conducted at UCT that either uses South African government funding directly, or is not conducted on a full-cost basis. If a funder pays according to the full cost model, then they may own IP emanating from the research - if they pay below this level it is deemed to be state subsidised and UCT owns the IP. The Act does not apply retrospectively, so current, ongoing projects will not be affected by this new legislation.
