Launch of Brown University - UCT GSB Pilot
The programme is based on best practices that were developed over a ten-year period by Brown and NCU and it uses a structured approach to systematically investigate business opportunities that have been created by science and engineering research. As one moves through the process, which is underpinned by useful worksheets and activities, potential products emerge and are prioritised ahead of rounds of progressively more detailed analysis and assessment, interspersed with information gathering and market research.
The programme has been implemented at a number of US universities as well as in the UK, Portugal and Korea, successfully resulting in the creation of high value growth businesses.
A number of researchers and research teams are participating in the pilot from Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Health Sciences and IIDMM.
Angus Kingon is Professor of Engineering, and Barrett Hazeltine University Professor of Entrepreneurship and Organizational Studies at Brown University as of 2008.
Ted Baker is a faculty member of the Management, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Department at North Carolina State University, where he teaches courses in entrepreneurship and technology commercialization to graduate students in Management, Science and Engineering programs.
