Innovation Projects Coordinator

Suraya Azam holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an Honours degree in Business Management from UNISA. She is an Innovation Projects Coordinator at UCT’s Research Contracts & Innovation office, where she coordinates innovation funding calls, compiles strategic reports, and reviews project progress.

Before transitioning into academia, Suraya worked as a Risk Analyst in the banking sector, specialising in business risk and compliance. She later joined UCT’s Office of Research Integrity to deliver a comprehensive and efficient review and oversight of processes in accordance with national legislation, university policies across biosafety and animal ethics domains.

With experience in both industry and research, Suraya takes a practical approach to coordinate projects, maintain compliance and provide project management oversight.
