As the Health Systems portfolio, we convene cross-disciplinary practitioners, academics, students, and community members to respond to Africa’s complex healthcare challenges—recognising that every challenge is also an opportunity for innovation. Our Health Systems Innovation Portfolio advances an approach to healthcare innovation in Africa, for Africa, grounded in real health needs and lived experience.

We believe that social innovation for health is a powerful mechanism for transforming health systems. By fostering collaboration, experimentation, and evidence-led learning, we work to support health systems in South Africa, across the continent, and globally to move closer to health equity.

Our goals are to:

  • Establish and activate physical spaces that enable social innovation in health
  • Build and grow virtual platforms for connection, collaboration, and learning
  • Catalyse radical collaboration across disciplines and sectors within the health innovation ecosystem
  • Identify, design, and advance new funding and financing models for health innovation
  • Generate evidence and deepen understanding of how health systems evolve and are transformed
