Ms Simphiwe Gumede

Simphiwe is an Intellectual Property Specialist with a strong background in technology transfer and intellectual property management. Her role at the University of Cape Town (UCT) involves identifying and facilitating intellectual property protection, supporting commercialisation strategies to maximise the impact of university research.

She joined Research Contracts and Innovation following her tenure as a Senior Specialist: Commercialisation at North-West University, where she was responsible for managing commercialisation projects, providing guidance on intellectual property protection, and engaging with industry partners. Prior to that, she served as a Commercialisation Specialist at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Technology Transfer Office.

Simphiwe holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and an Honours degree in Microbiology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is currently completing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the same institution.
