Mrs Gretha Duvenage
Gretha Duvenage is a seasoned legal professional with a rich corporate law, intellectual property rights, and contract management background. She brings a wealth of experience to her role as Senior Legal Advisor at RC&I.
Gretha's journey in the legal field began at North-West University (NWU), where she earned her Baccalaureus Procuration (BProc) in 1997, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Law from UNISA in 2004. Her academic aptitude is further highlighted by her current pursuit of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at NWU, with an expected completion in 2024. Her MBA dissertation focuses on the challenges faced by South African universities in establishing spin-out companies, showcasing her deep interest in the intersection of academia and the corporate world.
Admitted as an Attorney and Conveyancer to the High Court of South Africa in 1999 and 2000, respectively, Gretha's professional journey spans over two decades. Before her long-standing tenure at NWU, she held significant roles in various organisations, including, Ford Motor Company SA, G4S Secure Solutions (SA), and Vericred Collections (Pty) Ltd. In her role as Senior Specialist: Legal & Compliance at NWU, she played a pivotal role in the Technology Transfer and Innovation Support Office, focusing on intellectual property rights, compliance, contract management, and corporate governance.
Now at RC&I, Gretha is poised to make significant contribution to shaping and guiding the legal frameworks that support research, innovation, and commercialisation endeavours. Her expertise in legal compliance, intellectual property, and corporate governance is valuable to the university and the broader academic community.
