Womxn Just Wanna Have Fun
“You can stop right here. Thank you.”
After stepping out of the taxi, I started wishing that cars could enter buildings and drop us inside. Catcalls, stares - my anxiety was at its peak. By the time that I got to class, all I wanted to do was go back home and cancel the day. ‘I made it through yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that. I can make it through today,’ I thought to myself.
Dear Diary
It’s 03:47. I just got back from a night out with friends. I feel tired. E-X-H-A-U-S-T-E-D.
Not only are my feet in pain from wearing heels the whole night, but my emotions are all over the place.
I thought going out with my friends would be a great way to destress; just a night where I don’t have to think about how tough it is to actually be and how tired I am of everything.
Little did I know…
Every day, womxn are being harassed, subject to domestic violence, and sexually assaulted for no reason!
A heteronormative society has created the idea that womxn live for men. From ensuring that men are always comfortable, to always being reminded that marriage is something that they should be aspiring to, womxn cannot do anything without men being mentioned or forcefully including themselves.
Homo- and transphobia are two topics that are rarely spoken about, but non-cisgender womxn and/or homosexual womxn walk around in fear of inappropriate, offensive and very problematic slurs. Corrective rape and being murdered for being yourself and accepting your identity; can men relate?
Womxn are not safe and the world is not making a big enough fuss about this.
Womxn just want to have fun. Harassment-, misogynistic-, heteronormative -free fun.
