Mastercard Foundation Scholars are selected based on their demonstrated intention to carry out positive change within their communities. They are then taken through a series of workshops aimed at leadership development, teamwork and mentorship training, problem identification and problem-solving.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars are exposed to different versions of leadership and begin to develop their own personal leadership traits.
These leadership workshops further prepare them to be active members and contributors to their own communities post-graduation. The leadership development opportunities which the Mastercard Foundation Scholars can expect to participate in include:
- Financial literacy workshop
- Annual hike with the Vice Chancellor at UCT
- Annual leadership camp
- Motivational speaker events
- Conflict management workshop
- Racial discrimination workshop
- Leadership training workshops (i.e. African approach to personal development)
- Cultural awareness events (I.e. visits to Robben island and various heritage/cultural history sights)
- International Service Day
- Annual Mastercard Foundation Awards ceremony in recognition of Scholar achievements
- Annual Mastercard Foundation Scholars Council Elections
