Examples of documents which can be submitted as Proof of Address include: an official bank statement, a utility bill or a bill for services from the local council or municipality, or a letter from your school to your parents or caregiver at their home address.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is designed to support those facing significant financial barriers to participation in education.  Please provide us with details about your family’s income and financial status by uploading documents showing your financial status.

Examples could include your parents’ or guardian’s bank statements, or details about social or government grants that your family receives.

  • Your full educational background 

  • A history of your employment (if any) 

  • Details about extra-curricular activities you have participated in (e.g. whilst at school) 

  • Details of activities or engagement in your community 

  • Details about any leadership positions you have held (e.g. at school)

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program seeks to identify and develop the next generation of transformative leaders.  

 

For undergraduate applicants 

Please submit an essay of no more than 2,000 words answering the following questions: 

Why are you applying to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UCT? 

What personal and professional goals do you believe the Program will help you achieve? 

What has inspired your educational path to date? 

What obstacles have you faced in pursuing education and how did you overcome them? 

How have you helped others around you? 

 

For postgraduate applicants 

Please submit an essay of no more than 2,000 words reflecting on the qualities that define leadership and the ways in which you believe the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program will empower you in contributing to the economic growth and social development of your home community, country and the continent more broadly. Please include details about any community service activities or leadership or entrepreneurship initiatives you have undertaken.

Please submit a letter of recommendation in support of your application. This can be from a school teacher or lecturer, pastor or other religious leader, or a previous employer. Please ensure the letter includes the full name and contact details of your referee.
