If 2023 was a year of fanfare for the GSB Case Writing Centre – with the launch of our multimedia Doing Business in Africa case collection (which included four big cases from businesses around the continent) as well as our CWC Notes blog – 2024 was full of behind-the-scenes case work. Although most of the fruits of this work will come to bear in 2025 – watch this space! – 2024 still held some big milestones that we are reflecting on as we celebrate another wonderful year of African business storytelling:

We go Francophone

In our traditional case collection, we added our first case from a Francophone country with Djamo, a fintech startup based in Cote d’Ivoire. Francophone Africa is on the rise and the CWC is excited to expand our case footprint to capture the unique dynamics facing emerging businesses in the region.

DBIA #5

In May, we added our fifth case to the DBIA collection on the Nigerian agriculture fintech ThriveAgric. At a time of growing food insecurity around the continent, understanding the dilemmas and opportunities for problem-solvers like ThriveAgric has never been more important.

Spotlight on African businesses

We expanded our podcasting universe with a new feature called Spotlight, which profiles different sectors and businesses around the continent in short form with podcast interviews and infographics. Our first edition focussed on wealth management with Carrick Wealth South Africa.

Blog all about it

With our blog, CWC Notes, we invite readers to learn more about – and get more from – our case research. In 2024, we stocked our archive with some great posts on our favourite topics: a Q&A with our top faculty case writers and teachers, a snapshot of the latest reports and data on African business, a review of our best cases on specific subjects, or a look behind the scenes of our award-winning cases from the case writers themselves.

Cairo time

We wrapped up the year with a trip to the inaugural KCC Middle East and Africa Case Conference at The American University in Cairo School of Business – our first real venture into the MENA region. We will be posting highlights from the conference in the new year, but sufficed to say, it was a brilliant opportunity to connect with the top case researchers on the continent and to share our lessons learnt over the last seven years of producing African cases.

See you in 2025!

Watch this space for some exciting announcements and, of course, more African cases in 2025.
