'The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?': Review
I made the mistake of reading through the first few lines of a review for this show before watching it. It’s a show that is so bizarre and absurd that you must experience it yourself.
On the surface, it’s a show directed by Mdu Kweyama
However, it not only touches on several social issues, like Alzheimer’s, sexuality, fidelity and family dynamics, for such a short time it looks like a parody, but it also tells you the plot in the first five minutes. All of this coupled with the four-person cast, including Jennifer Steyn, from TV's Abo Mzala. She plays Stevie, the most sarcastic housewife you will see in theatre.
All in all, when you go see the show – which you should – do so with an open mind. There were a lot of WTH moments, even though I did know the main plot before going in. It’s a show meant to provoke you, with various twists that are often as emotional as they are hilarious.
Would I see it again? Maybe, but only with friends, to see the looks on their faces when…
