SA Artist Spotlight: Howie Combrink
In this week’s SA Artist Spotlight, we’re featuring Howie Combrink:
Howie Combrink started out as a drummer for a few well-known bands, Gang of Instrumentals, New Academics and Watershed, to name a few, but now he seems to be following in the footsteps of Dave Grohl as a drummer/ solo artist. His track, 'Light of my Day' keeps to that rock sound of the bands he was previously involved with but over the years his sound has morphed into a mixture of acoustic, folk and even a little bit of reggae. His debut solo album, Eat It While It’s Hot, allowed him to show off his talents as a multi-instrumentalist. His most recent song, ‘Believe,’ which he recorded in association with the Rape, Alcohol, Drug and Abuse renewal organisation (RADA), is a bit of an ode to self-assurance and positivity for the future regardless of your past. His smooth vocals, mellow melodies and feel good lyrics make this under-rated artist a top act!
He’s a bit of a South African Jack Johnson…
