Invitation for Celebration
UCT Radio officially turns 21 this month! From its humble beginnings back in 1976, the station has grown from strength to strength. Operating as a pirate broadcaster for 18 years, the radio was granted its license in 1994 and has since expanded its reach to Northern Suburbs, Cape Flats, Southern Suburbs and on the worldwide web via live streaming.
The radio station has stayed true to its diverse nature, incorporating music and stories from a heap of different genres. It not only speaks to the students currently on campus but those who aspire to or have already experienced the UCT life. Its current listenership lies at an average of 19000 listeners a week and as these precious individuals are such an integral part to the radio, it seems only fit that we let you jump on the celebration train with us!
In running its special birthday campaigns this month, the radio is giving away a full Matric Dance experience to a lucky student. This will include transportation by Uber for the evening, a professional hair and make-up artist, a dress and/or suit to wear and a DJ who will perform at the dance. All it takes to win an unforgettable evening is a one page letter of motivation stating why you are deserving. Alternatively, if you think you don’t want to hog all the benefits to yourself, you can nominate someone you think is deserving.
If you’re upset that you’ve already missed the Matric Dance Experience boat then you could stand a chance to win a 21st birthday gift to remember. The radio is giving away a birthday dinner at Beluga, one of the best restaurants in Cape Town. Along with that, all transportation will be provided by Uber, as well as an awesome after party (venue to be confirmed). To welcome adulthood into your life in an amazing way, submit a two minute video that demonstrates why you should be so deserving.
