UPDATED: Trouble Within SRC House
UPDATE: On Tuesday 17 February, we had Nicole Mirkin in studio—a week after news broke of the troubles on Level 7. Listen to what she had to say.
Listen to the reaction that followed:
PREVIOUS ARTICLE:
- We can confirm that Ramabina Mahapa is the new UCT SRC president, following the deposition of Khanyisa Pinini.
- We can confirm that a DASO-UCT member of the SRC, Jonathan Yankelowitz, switched sides within the factionalist SRC, to vote with the rival faction ALUTA in voting Khanyisa Pinini out of her presidency.
- Certain SRC members have used intimidation, aggressive language, threats of violence or other underhanded tactics to try to muzzle and threaten other SRC members out of speaking to the media as an attempt of censorship.
Here are some of views from UCT students:
@uctradio @dansonair As someone who sits on a faculty council, it's the very process of assigning positions which encourages factionalism.

@UCTRadio We have lost valuable pioneership in this SRC fire. Whoever succeeds @baz_bailey becomes neither my SRC nor my president #NotMySRC

@UCTRadio @UCT_SRC procedure was not followed, factionalism has been created and @UCTStudent(s) have been neglected #NotMySRC

@UCT_SRC actions bring the organisation into disrepute. They are not representing the students, just looking 4 power.@UCTRadio @UCTStudent
