Exam Blues, made easier with these 5 tips!
As we all know winter and exam is not the greatest combination. Pretty much everyone feels the curse of exams looming over them at some point, be it whilst during revision, waking up on the day of an exam, or in the midst of the exam itself. It’s only natural.
All those authors we have to cite, all those number sequences we have to remember, all the hours spent in the library, is just not fun! But never fear UCT Radio is here to expel your exam blues. We like to shake things up and make the best out of the worst. So we are bringing you no ordinary tip list to survive the cold and the work:
- Go on a media diet. Yes, we all hate those people who delete all their social networking sites just before exams so they can ‘concentrate’. But believe they are the ones getting the firsts. Now you don’t have to do something as drastic as ‘deleting’-the horror- but try and stay far away. But if you are weak as some of us, then delete the thing!
- Study before you sleep. Yes, I know you are told not to study too late, but there is some good research that sleeping (and specifically slow wave sleep) can improve memory of study you've done just before sleep. So studying close to sleep onset can help consolidate that learning more powerfully.
- Study, then Relax. It is never enough just to stuff our minds full of facts. You need to absorb, assimilate, and digest the information to make it your own. Real knowledge becomes a part of you. This information absorption happens when we relax.
- Take that 5min break. That 25-30min we all like to take, its called procrastination people. Don’t do it! Taking a 5min break means walking to the fridge get an apple and come right back to your desk…do not stray. Feed your brain and move your body.
- Listen to UCT Radio 104.5. No, we are not shamelessly advertising. Yes we are! But seriously, music is the best way to get you out of your studying funk. And we have all the best kind just for you.
