Undergraduate
Arthur Ndeh Foute is an undergraduate scholar pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. He takes pride in his creativity and passion for community service. His lifelong goal to make life easier for the underprivileged has led him to work with many NGOs, which help high achieving low income scholars to secure tertiary education. He strives to increase the standard of living in his home country Cameroon by building machines at low cost, enabling them to be purchased by those less privileged. Since 2017, Arthur has worked with Open Dreams, a college preparatory NGO as an SAT tutor and advisor. In 2018, he interned at the Bamenda City Council, where he used the skills he acquired to assist in reconstructing bridges and water channels in his local neighbourhood.
Munashe Benhura is an undergraduate scholar pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a self-motivated young man who is always beaming with energy. He is a hard- working person in his studies and was ranked 12thoverall in his Advanced level results in Zimbabwe. He is an individual that believes that all problems can be solved through science. He has a keen interest in the science of flying machines and hopes to venture into Aeronautical engineering. He is much greatly inspired by founder of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, who is one of the world's leaders in the field.
Jaspher Chifagume is an undergraduate scholar pursuing a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. Jaspher has won several awards, including four academic awards for the best scholar in maths and biology and a competency certificate for the best scholar in a quiz at the provincial level. At Mount Selinda, Jaspher was the president of the Interact Club, vice-president of the Quiz Club, school vice-head boy, chairman of the Entertainment Committee, a Debate Club member and also a Worship Committee member. In sports, Jaspher was a judo (martial arts) scholar and enjoyed playing handball. Currently, at UCT, Jaspher has a vision of one day becoming a tech pioneer in Africa. With interests in renewable energy, telecommunications, real estate and investment banking, Jaspher spends his free time reading books about entrepreneurship and public speaking. His main goal is to develop African solutions for Africa by contributing to the continent's self-sufficiency in the technology sector through innovation.
Lwazi Simelane is an undergraduate scholar pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He enjoys mathematics, physics, design and technology. With these abilities, Lwazi wants to help his country achieve King Mswati III’s vision of seeing the Kingdom of eSwatini gain and maintain a first-world status by 2022 through the development of infrastructure and improved economic growth. Moreover, Lwazi is a forex trader with two years’ experience and a good track record specialising in charts. At UCT, he is an active member of the South African Students’ Congress (SASCO), which champions the interests of scholars and seeks to ensure access and success in every institution by fighting for better accommodation, more computer labs, better-equipped libraries and lower costs of education. He is also an active member of the Swazi Students' Society.
Postgraduate
Felemane Felemane is from Lesotho and is currently a postgraduate scholar pursuing a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with Renewable Energy and Power Stability as research areas. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering majoring in heavy current at UCT. He is dedicated to driving changes in the building industry in his home country and Africa as a whole. He is passionate about giving back to his community by guiding and providing mentoring to youth as well as providing tutoring lessons to high school students and supporting them in making good career choices. In 2018, he was involved in the UCT Mentorship Program for first years. Felemane also served as the secretary general for the Lesotho Student Association (LESA) at UCT. He is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB) at UCT, both of which share a common goal to give back to the community. His goal is to contribute to his community through education a by getting youths more involved.
Nokubonga Mfeka is a dedicated and ambitious graduate student with academic background in Geomatics and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). She is currently doing her final year Masters in Geomatics Engineering. She possesses a strong interest in spatial data, mapping, and the application of technology to solve real-world challenges. Her academic journey reflects a commitment to excellence and continuous learning, positioning her well for a career in the engineering sectors.
Her qualifications in Geomatics and GIS have equipped her with strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, which she continues to develop through her academic work and practical experiences. Nokubonga aspires to build a meaningful career in the geospatial and engineering sectors, where she can contribute to infrastructure development, environmental management, and data-driven solutions.
She is actively engaged in community and institutional initiatives. She has served as a tutor, providing academic support to fellow students, and as an IT assistant, contributing to technical operations. She has also volunteered during university Open Day events and is a member of the Mastercard Foundation Student Council. Through these roles, she demonstrates a strong commitment to leadership, community engagement, and empowering others.
Sphamandla Zungu is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar and Master of Science in Engineering (Geomatics) candidate at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Land Surveying from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is passionate about using data and technology to address complex societal challenges.
His research focuses on spatial variations in first year mathematics performance at UCT , applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analytics to support evidence-based decision-making. Beyond his studies, Sphamandla serves as a Council Member for the 2026 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Council and as the Postgraduate Class Representative in the UCT Geomatics Division. He has also tutored undergraduate students in surveying and geomatics, supporting their academic development and success.
Sphamandla is the co-founder of YouthHub South Africa, a non-profit organisation that promotes educational opportunities, mentorship, and youth empowerment. In recognition of his leadership contributions, he received the 2026 Excellence in Leadership Award from the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
Professionally, he has gained experience through organisations including Boston Consulting Group, Afrobarometer, the International Organization for Migration, and Secha Capital. His career aspirations lie in management consulting and data analytics, where he hopes to leverage data-driven insights to create meaningful and sustainable impact across Africa.
