About the Constitutional Committee
The Constitutional Committee (CC) is an independent body within student governance responsible for safeguarding the integrity, consistency, and proper interpretation of student governance legislation. It operates impartially and is guided solely by the SRC Constitution and its standing rules.
The Constitutional Committee provides authoritative interpretations of student governance legislation where meaning is unclear. It issues binding rulings in cases of dispute over interpretation.
Functions and Powers
The Constitutional Committee is the custodian of all student governance legislation. It is empowered to:
- Interpret all student governance legislation and issue binding rulings in the event of disputes.
- Review student structure constitutions and provide recommendations thereon.
- Approve standing rules for sub-councils and other governance bodies.
- Review matters involving conflicts of interest, determine whether a conflict exists, and, where necessary, compel the recusal of any member of a student structure.
Constitutional Committee Members
The Constitutional Committee is composed of student members selected by Student Parliament in accordance with the SRC Constitution and Student Parliament Standing Rules.
