Tim Gebbie
A/Prof. Tim Gebbie Ph.D. CPhys. MInstP, FRM.
Tim is an applied mathematician by training, with a background in Cosmology and Physics. He has over a decade of industrial experience in Quantitative Finance, working as a quant in trading, risk management, and asset management for a variety of large and small financial services companies. Tim has over 20 years of experience in the academic environment, and has worked in a several departments, universities, and units over the years: ranging from work in radio astronomy and cosmology, to computer science and applied mathematics, to his current focus in data science and statistical finance in the Department of Statistical Sciences. His research area is in modeling financial markets and strategic agents in financial markets: Econophysics. Tim teaches a variety of courses including third year, honours and masters level modules in various statistical science programs in the department. He is actively involved with the Academic Union within the university.
Mediation experience and style:
Tim has recently become an accredited mediator but has been involved in many work and social conflict processes over the years, more recently including salary negotiations and disciplinary processes at the University of Cape Town.
Areas of interest:
Tim is interested in mediating areas relating to workplace challenges, labour conflict, and any form of workplace harassment or conflict.
