Deon Minnies
Deon Minnies is a public health management consultant, advisor, and trainer specializing in planning, advocacy, and leadership and management for the development of health services for people with disabilities. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and is the Director of the Community Eye Health Institute in the Division of Ophthalmology at UCT, South Africa (UCT-CEHI). In this role, he is responsible for organizing and teaching postgraduate studies in community eye health, leadership and management, and advocacy and communication, among others. Deon has conducted numerous health programme development consultancies in Africa and Asia, including training teams to conduct blindness prevalence surveys, performing programme evaluations and health service mapping, and managing several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) funded capacity development projects in healthcare.
Mediation Experience and Style:
Deon obtained his certification in Mediation and Restorative Justice after successfully completing his training in November 2023. Through his work in healthcare development, he has gained a deep appreciation for the richness of context and complexities within people's work and personal lives, as well as a keen understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. He possesses strong observation, listening, and communication skills, which will be invaluable for the role of a mediator. Deon looks forward to utilizing his excellent people skills in the field of dispute resolution.
