Denise Oldham
Denise holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Languages and joined the UCT Disability Service in 2000. She is experienced in text conversion and editing, assistive technology, braille printing and organising human support for students with a wide range of disabilities. Denise has a particular interest in how Universal Design for Learning promotes academic inclusivity for students with disabilities. As Direct Services Specialist, Denise is responsible for the provision of disability accommodations for students referred to write tests and exams at the Disability Service. This includes ensuring that the necessary accommodations are in place to promote academic success, for example assistive software, supportive furniture, secluded writing spaces, Scribe and Carer availability as needed. Denise encourages a collaborative approach when working with students with disabilities and academic and administrative colleagues, to remove barriers to academic participation and always to be guided by the lived experience of the individual student.
