Mariam (Mimi) has been a valued member of the University of Cape Town (UCT) community since 2005. She initially joined as a student, completing a BScSc in Psychology and Organisational Psychology. In 2013, Mimi transitioned into a full-time role as an employee at UCT. Throughout her tenure, Mimi has accumulated extensive experience in teaching and tutoring, demonstrating her commitment to fostering academic excellence. Moreover, she has spent the past 11 years as a dedicated PASS staff member in academic administration.

Beyond her contributions within UCT, Mimi has also made a significant impact in a private capacity, offering mentorship and counselling services upon completing her studies. Additionally, she has drawn upon her knowledge and expertise to provide mentorship at UCT. Notably, Mimi held the esteemed position of coordinator of the Humanities Faculty Mentorship Programme for a remarkable 6 years. During this time, she oversaw the training, mentoring, and managing of approximately 100 mentors annually. This invaluable experience enabled her to develop exceptional skills in conflict resolution.

Mimi's dedication to professional development is evident through her training and accreditation in mediation by the esteemed Social Justice Association of Mediators. She consistently uses her psychology background to effectively navigate conflicts in the workplace and her professional and personal life. Within her current role, Mimi plays a vital role in engaging with staff members and promptly reporting conflicts as they arise. Overall, Mimi's wealth of experience, expertise, and commitment to conflict resolution make her an indispensable asset to her unit at UCT.

Mimi possesses extensive expertise in conflict management and resolution, with a specific focus on the university setting. Throughout her tenure at UCT, she has successfully mediated a multitude of disputes involving staff, students, and third parties.

Areas of interest:
Mimi is interested in mediating cases involving harassment, familial issues, and workplace disputes. Her academic interests currently focus on the rapidly evolving field of Islamic psychology, specifically in the area of holistic trauma healing and self-care. She is an avid reader and accomplished acrylic artist, with some of her artwork displayed in the School of Management Studies within the Commerce Faculty.
