Student Systems Support (SSS) is a section of the Office of the Registrar. Our purpose is to ensure that UCT makes effective use of student administrative systems. To do so, we provide functional support to users of student administrative systems at UCT. We do this via:
-
The SSS Helpdesk. The helpdesk is contactable via email, telephone (X5227)
-
End user training and documentation. We offer approximately 40 role - based training courses to users of the PeopleSoft (PS) Campus Solutions system. These are offered as classroom courses, with all documentation available to authorised users via the SSS site on Vula. We also use the STT simulation tool, which allows trained users to access simulations of the system functions for which they are authorised.
-
Support for system enhancements: User requests for new or enhanced system functionality are submitted via the Student Computing Coordination Committee (SCCC), where they are reviewed and prioritised. Development is done by the Systems Division (SD) section of the ICTS department. User acceptance testing and production of support documentation is arranged by SSS.
-
Data Quality: The current focus on the quality of the master data and transaction data in PS is via direct involvement in the HEMIS student data submission processes. This involves coordination of the annual submission to the DoE, ensuring that UCT can report on all required data elements from PS, and taking proactive and reactive steps to ensure that end users use the transactions correctly.
