SSS was established as an outcome of the ISIS (Integrated Student Information System) project. The ISIS project had as its main deliverable the implementation of version 8.0 of the PeopleSoft Student Administration (PSSA) system. PS replaced an in house built system that had been in place for 20 years.

In addition to the major change of system, the expanded user base, greater amount of functionality deployed, and generally increasing staffing changes, meant that a dedicated user support structure was needed.

SSS works closely with the Student Systems and Systems Access (SA) teams in the Systems Division (SD) section of ICTS.
