From 2026, the Klaus-Jürgen Bathe Engineering Scholarship and the Klaus-Jürgen Bathe Leadership Scholarship will merge to form the Klaus-Jürgen Bathe Scholarships, open to students from all six faculties at UCT. These scholarships will be awarded annually and administered by the UCT Funding Office. 

Faculties will nominate students in their last two years of study, and successful candidates who meet the criteria below will receive a one-year scholarship of R60 000.

Criteria:

The Klaus-Jürgen Bathe Scholarship recognises a student who demonstrates strong academic achievement (GPA above 70% and no failed modules), active leadership during their university years, and a meaningful contribution to society. Recipients are expected to exemplify integrity, responsibility, and a clear commitment to making a positive impact both within the university community and beyond.
