This 3-hour fundraising challenge will take place at the UCT Cricket Oval on 25th October, from 13:00 to 16:00. It’s all about raising funds for the UCT Food Sovereignty Programme. Anyone can participate, regardless of fitness level! Get ready for an adrenaline-packed, fun activity that’s exciting for both participants and spectators! We’re inviting you to sign up your team of four people to cycle and row for a great cause: supporting our UCT students. Here’s how you can get involved:

If cycling or rowing isn’t your thing, you can still support the UCT Food Sovereignty Programme by backing a team that you think will win this fundraising challenge. Simply select your pledge amount!

  • We challenge you to rally your networks and get them to sponsor you per kilometre that you row and cycle. All donations will go directly to the UCT Food Sovereignty Programme.
  • For this competition, each person will need to:
    1. Cycle for 15 minutes on the stationary bikes, then
    2. Row for 15 minutes on the static rowing machines.
  • Each 15-minute session will feature varying intensity levels to keep the competition ultra-competitive.
  • Individual scores = total distance achieved on the bikes + total distance achieved on the rowing machines.
  • Scores from the group stages will be announced to determine a group stage winner.
  • The overall winner for the UCT Day Cycleathon and Rowathon will be announced at the end of the challenge.
    • Remember, every pledge made towards a winning team helps UCT combat food insecurity on campus.
    • All teams will be visible on the UCT Day website, along with a “Fund Us” link for each team to facilitate pledges and donations.
    • You can make multiple pledges for your team(s) in the weeks leading up to and on UCT Day itself.
