Applications for the SRC Assistance Fund 

Purpose

The SRC Assistance Fund aims to help students who are unable to register due to outstanding fees.

Requirements

The SRC Assistance Fund is open to all students of the University of Cape Town who were registered in 2023 provided that:

  • For a South African student:
    • the student was not on any kind of financial aid during 2023.
  • For an international student:
    • the student must provide proof that they are able to pay for the upcoming year’s fee since international students cannot register unless they pay the full amount at the beginning of the year.

Principles of Selection

The conditions of award include:

  • Financial need
  • Academic performance
  • Year of study
  • Debt size

The Assistance Fund Committee reserves the right to alter the conditions of award based on available funding, including setting the maximum award that will be made to a student. Please note that only students who were registered in 2023 are eligible to apply. 

To apply, please complete the below application form and submit all supporting documents. Applications that do not submit supporting documents will be considered incomplete.  

As supporting documents please submit: 

  • Proof of Income of Parents, Guardians or Spouse
  • Any documents to support your motivation (affidavits, death certificate, bank statements etc.)

Please note that the committee tries to assess the means of applications, through the gross income of those directly supporting them as dependents. For these Parent(s) or Guardian(s)/Spouse(s) or Lifelong Partner(s) income can come in the form of Salary, Pension, SASSA grant/s, Child support/ maintenance, Rental or Investment Income, Contributions from others or Business Profit. The committee requires applicants to provide evidence of all incomes, by providing either a payslip from their employer, their IRP5, IT3(a and/or b) or ITR12 (of the last 2 years), for members of  members a CC / PTY (ltd) and / or sole proprietor please provide IRP5, IT3(a and/or b) or ITR12 (of the last 2 years), for pensioners SASSA grant(s) or are unemployed please provide a sworn affidavit.

Financial Aid & Financial Aid-eligible students:
 We recommend contacting the Financial Aid Office with regard to any outstanding fee debt.  The Financial Aid Office hold an annual Financial Aid Appeals process which aims to assist qualifying students with outstanding fee debt.  Details of this application process, and the form, can be found on their website.
