Software created to address the needs of researchers is playing an increasingly important role in many scientific domains. As a result, researchers and engineers are eager to improve their research software's quality, learn new skills and seek recognition for their work.

Held on 14 April 2026, the "Research Software Quality Across Continents | EVERSE-Africa Engagement Event" was organised by the EVERSE project, the University of Cape Town's e-Research Centre and the Science for Africa Foundation. The goal of this event was to share experience across continents and foster knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

The programme featured short talks from African researcher, and a detailed overview of the EVERSE project’s tools, indicators and frameworks designed to support research software quality and recognition.

Sessions included a series of short talks from the African community, moderated by Anelda Van der Walt from the UCT eResearch Centre. "We brought together a range of voices from across the continent showcasing the breadth of software developed on the continent," she said, "to discuss the challenges faced in creating research software - and exploring ways of improving its quality".
