Dr Seeiso Koali

Divisional Manager and Research Integrity Officer; South African Medical Research Council

Seeiso Koali is the Divisional Manager and Research Integrity Officer at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC). He offers guidance on policies, research ethics guidelines, and procedures related to research integrity, while also addressing cases involving breaches of research norms and standards and/or potential research misconduct. In addition, he organises training on Research Ethics and Good Clinical Practice for SAMRC staff and ensures adherence to regulatory requirements for responsible research conduct.

Seeiso holds a PhD in Bioethics from the University of Witwatersrand, an MSc Med Bioethics and Health Law from the University of Witwatersrand's Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics, an M.Phil in Biomedical Ethics from Stellenbosch University, a PGD in Public Health from the University of Western Cape, an Honours degree in Philosophy from the National University of Lesotho, and a B.A. in Philosophy from the Urbaniana Pontifical University in Rome, Italy.

Prior to joining SAMRC, Seeiso was a senior lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the National University of Lesotho, where he taught courses such as Medical Ethics, Bioethics, Introduction to Applied Ethics, and Introduction to Moral Philosophy. He has also served as a member of the Institutional Review Board at the Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation-Lesotho from 2013 to 2016.
