Events 2020 – virtual, live or hybrid?
The year 2020 has been a challenging one in the conferencing and events environment. With the onset of COVID-19, people had to adapt to a new normal swiftly. Terms like social distancing, PPE and lockdown levels become part of our daily lives. The circumstances also posed challenges for events and conferences organisers who plan their schedule years in advance.
Some argue that COVID-19 required us to do a quantum leap in terms of how we use technology; a change that might have taken years otherwise suddenly became essential to function in a couple of months, if not weeks.
On the university campus, lectures were moved to an online format and are now successfully running for the second term.
In the conferencing and events field, CMC was able to host virtual events, using the technology such as Zoom and Teams to connect people. We also became acquired with hybrid events, where some people join in person and some via the internet. Once the restrictions of lockdown eased, we could re-consider live events (also referred to as face-to-face or on-site events). We were able to hold some live events, albeit with slight adaptations, such as holding sessions with smaller groups over several days in succession instead of one event, one large group on the same day.
If you want to make use of CMC's expertise and experience, email our team to discuss how we can assist with your particular event. You can also view our flyer on Virtual Conferencing for more information.
