Capacity Building
Youth development organisations are working in increasingly complex environments. Strengthening outcomes for young people requires organisations to continually learn, adapt their programmes and work more effectively with others.
Our capacity-building work supports practitioners and organisations to do this. Drawing on social innovation, systems thinking and collective approaches, we design practical learning experiences that help organisations strengthen their programmes while understanding their role within the wider youth development ecosystem.
What this looks like in practice:
Over the past several years, we have designed and delivered capacity-building interventions with youth development practitioners and organisations across South Africa. This has included:
Systems thinking and programme design workshops that help practitioners understand complex challenges, question assumptions and identify opportunities for change.
Mental health and psychosocial support training that strengthens practitioners' ability to recognise and respond to the wellbeing needs of young people.
Social innovation learning experiences that support organisations to test ideas, learn from practice and adapt programmes to changing contexts.
Peer learning and collaboration through YD Co-Lab and other partnerships, creating spaces for organisations to share practice, work through common challenges and build stronger relationships across the sector.
Our capacity-building work ranges from short workshops to multi-session programmes and tailored learning journeys developed with partners.
The aim is not simply to introduce new tools or concepts. It is to strengthen the ability of organisations to learn, adapt and collaborate, improving their own practice while contributing to a stronger and more connected youth development ecosystem.
